The extreme diversity of clinical forms requires different therapeutic interventions are tailored to the type and severity of symptoms. It is therefore not possible to determine in advance the effectiveness of a treatment, because what could be useful in a case could be ineffective in another. Only a fair and thorough screening can then determine the most effective way to treat psoriasis (phototherapy).
Fortunately, whatever the result of the examination, doctors now have available drugs and therapies to treat the disease in the vast majority of cases. Unfortunately, the current safeguards do not allow treatment to heal completely from the disease but simply to treat it by turning off the activity.
Precisely because of this chronic, psoriasis requires constant care and regular as with other diseases such as diabetes and ‘hypertension. Despite the apparent recovery is also useful to carry out specialized periodicals, and to seize any complications at birth, both ensure that care is taken with no side effects.
Besides the use of traditional medicines in recent years have been introduced so-called “smart drugs” that have proved particularly effective when other treatments do not work or are contraindicated. These biological drugs produced by recombinant DNA technology can cope with an excellent chance of success even more serious forms of the disease. The drug is in constant evolution, has also led to the discovery of specific drugs for treating the milder forms of psoriasis to limit its effects. The cream-based cortisone, for example, are often replaced by more innovative preparations essentially free of side effects in the long term.
In minor cases are used topical medications, or applied locally as creams, ointments or lotions. Given that none of these works in 100% of cases, choosing the most suitable product belongs exclusively to the dermatologist who will act according to the profile of the patient in his care.
To increase the effectiveness of these products, especially in areas where the skin is thicker you use the so-called occlusive technique. In practice this will open pores using a pack of cellophane on the skin thus improving the penetration of the drug in the skin.
The Sun is a valuable ally in the treatment of many forms of psoriasis. Particularly useful in the most common variations of the disease (a plaque psoriasis), to be truly effective l ‘sun exposure, however, must meet very specific charges.
First, the sun’s rays are directly hitting the skin sick and for this reason, the light is not very effective in psoriasis of the scalp. The sun should be “taken” for a sufficiently long time (at least 2-3 weeks), as the sun taken during the weekend does not bring substantial benefits.
It ‘also important to expose to the sun gradually because sunburn may worsen the disease. For this reason you should avoid exposure to the sun during the hottest hours protecting areas not affected by appropriate sunscreens.
Artificial tanning is equally, if not more effective than traditional especially if done at centers specializing in the treatment of psoriasis.
Today, the technique used to submit the subject UVA after administration of tablets photosensitization which increases their efficacy. Recently there is a very selective technique based on the beneficial effects of UVB rays narrow band that does not include the use of drugs photosensitizing.
UVA therapy standard provides for the submission to 3 / 4 sessions a week for a total of 20 meetings from 22 to operate in about 1 month and a half. The therapy is based on narrowband UVB requires longer periods (about 3 months) as the response to therapy is slower.
There are also concerns that in addition to medical treatment, the simple reduction of stress greatly benefit the patient. For this reason it is sometimes granted moments of relax and do regular exercise to download the daily tensions.
DID YOU KNOW: In phototherapy myrtle, bergamot, chamomile, geranium, juniper, lavender, sandalwood, Melissa, myrrh and carrot are used to combat psoriasis?
